La Boqueria

The saving grace of Las Ramblas is La Boqueria, the large, fresh, open air market

La Boqueria, by Karina for TKGO

Does Barcelona’s famous fresh, open-air market fall under sightseeing, food or shopping? It really fits all three perfectly. At La Boqueria — or Mercat de Sant Josep — wind past colorful stalls of fresh fruit and vegetables and smell todays’ catch at the fish stalls before you can even see it. It’s a great place to walk around and let your senses take over; maybe grab a piece of fresh fruit or handful of candy to munch as you walk. Locals do shop here and pick up food for the day (they’ll be the ones ramming their carts into your heels), as well as tourists with big eyes.
