Places to amble and enjoy
Philly’s old city charm pervades many other parts of the city beyond its historic attractions. Stroll around Center City (a lot of people shop around Chestnut, Walnut and Market streets, though that’s not where you’re likely to find small, unique boutiques) and peer down alleys and side streets. Chances are you’ll encounter lots of clusters of older townhouses and homes that serve as a constant reminder of just how historic the city is. (Not too old by European standards, but hey, it’s what we’ve got.)
Northern Liberties is also an interesting neighborhood to explore. National Geographic Traveler recently featured it as an “up and coming but almost there” place, and it definitely has an artsy, alternative vibe.
