Perhaps my favorite restaurant in Barcelona — did I mention they bottle their own sparkling wine?
Xampanyet is in the Born neighborhood of Barcelona and right nearby the Picasso Museum (“Museu Picasso“). It’s a small place with as many stools and small tables crammed in as possible, and it can get definitely get loud. If you’re in the mood for that atmosphere, you’re going to love it. With everyone packed in and bottle after bottle of their famous cava (sparkling wine) coming up, it’s a very social couple of hours eating and imbibing. The small plates do not disappoint, either. Tender tuna slicked with olive oil, patatas bravas — perfectly crisp on the outside, warm and fluffy on the inside potatoes coated with the signature spicy bravas— and paper-thin, salty and smooth jamon iberico are some. El Xampanyet serves up simple tapas from simple ingredients, but executes them perfectly to match their sweet bubbly.
