USS Nemo

The best fish and seafood Naples has to offer served in a crowded, albeit elegant, dining room

USS Nemo's signature dish: Miso Broiled Sea Bass ($28.95), by Tara for TKGO

Tables in the dining room are on top of each other, and the line for people with reservations is out the door. But you won’t regret anything.

At first glance, the menu seems like a typical Asian fusion attempt — but if you write it off, you’re missing the best items on the menu. It encompasses everything from your typical surf and turf combos and sashimi/seaweed offerings to four variations of poutine (french fries with cheese curds and “a special gravy”) on the sides menu.

At USS Nemo, I ate some of the best fish I have ever had in my 21 years. If you’re a purist, go for the signature dish: Miso Broiled Sea Bass. It melts when it hits your tongue and leaves a sweet, broth-y aftertaste behind. For those who love sauce, the Volcano Yellowtail Snapper is a favorite, and not for the faint of heart — literally, the layers of sauce might clog an artery or two — but the oozing, creamy texture pairs well with the meaty snapper. Don’t miss the Seaweed and Seafood Trilogy appetizer ($13.95) with three seaweed salads each paired with sea bass, lobster tempura and salmon, perfect for four to share a taste of each.

And don’t be afraid. Nemo has white tablecloths, but a nice pair of jeans is all you need.
