Confitería Ideal

A traditional milonga right in the center of the city

If you want to see tango the way it’s traditionally done in Argentina, the milonga here is it. It’s not a cena show with glittery shoes, but rather a participatory dance hall event. Beginners, old couples and instructors roam the second floor of this confitería, where the food is no good and the coffee’s only drinkable. If you’re only in town for a week or so, it’s in the center of Microcentro so it won’t take you too far off track. If you’re inspired to take a few lessons, they do classes in Spanish. Milongas usually start around 10:30 p.m. and run until 2 a.m., but check the schedule first.

Suipacha 384 at Av. Corrientes.
