Oveja Negra

Order up pitchers of sangria or beer to split at wooden tables and benches in this cavernous, somewhat rustic bar

Oveja Negra (“black sheep”) is technically “Ovella Negra,” the Catalan translation, though many (especially Americans) call it “Oveja Negra.” Americans and study abroad students who want to meet up with big groups of friends mix with locals who enjoy splitting pitchers with friends in a large, social bar. It’s a great place to start a night, or to spend the whole night with a group of friends and strangers sharing one of the large tables.

If you’re going to the Oveja Negra in Raval (which is the only one I’ve frequented), make sure you’re quiet when entering and leaving. The guards are protective of their residential neighbors and won’t take you yelling.
